Section 1 - Hardware

Computer Hardware

The hardware of a computer can be seen as internally ( CD-Drives, Hard drive and Ram) or can include external parts (Monitor, Keyboard, Printer) as examples.
These are all devices that are physically connected or attached to a computer. CD-Drives can be found in the majority of computers and laptops and use lasers which read the cd's data.
Another interesting piece of hardware is a Modem.  These devices can be found externally away from the computer/device which sends and receives signals from a telephone line or fibres (optical) to the device which is wanting access to the modem
After the computer has been switched on, the hardware which is attached must communicate with the computers CPU. The computers CPU carries out instructions and is considered the "brains of the computer!" This communication from the hardware is done by using an Interrupt request, when a hardware device is needed it sends a request which automatically allows the CPU to stop and process the request immediately. If there was a previous request that was interrupted by the request it will resume as it was stored in the memory stack.

Now & Then

Computer Hardware has most certainly evolved to beyond the imagination!  Laptops have progressed and if you thought your core i3 processor was slow then consider the first laptop developed in 1979 which ran an Intel 8086 processor and weighed 5kg, nowadays laptops weigh on average 2 kg!  Hard drives, Ram and Processors still continue the same function as the past although the speed of operation and size has changed to benefit people of the world!

The use of the keyboard and mouse are become a distant memory with increasing pieces of technology adopting touchscreens as this offers portability, convenience and enhances the users experience of use .  As we think of the unthinkable developments in the future we can look forward to bigger Ram's especially as the first Ram could only store 4.4mb of data.
We can also look forward to even thinner devices which are thinner than the Ipad air and perhaps even the technology to push forward telepathy with the outstanding pieces of hardware we can look forward to, in the future!
