Section 2 - Software

SO WHAT IS COMPUTER SOFTWARE?

There are thousands of software programs available with different functionalities and capabilities to run on all types of technology. The software program essentially tells the computer run a specific task which the user enables.

Many people may assume that software is only just standard applications that you will find on an average computer for example Microsoft Word or Adobe Flash. However you are wrong! There are two main types of software known as system and application.
The main difference between the two types are that the system software is responsible for essentially looking after and running/maintaining the individual hardware components within the computer, whereas application software consists of one or more programs specifically designed to carry out an activity for a the software program that the user has operated. The only main problem with application software is that it relies on system software to run smoothly!

Installed onto each computer is system software this simultaneously installs with the operating system. Computer programmers are able to alter this piece of software although the end user is essentially not meant to have a nosey around this piece of software, so keep out!
Did you know, that system software operates at a level called "low level" this means it runs at the most basic level on your computer.

The evolution of software...

Since 1946 software has been apart of the technology industry and the evolution has needed to adapt to the evermore demands from consumers, industries including medical, education, entertainment and the business sector to name a few, constantly require newer and faster pieces of software which can be either costly or free to download.
To begin with software programs where originally only available on computers however now they have expanded to smartphones, tablets, laptops and even smart watches!
New versions of software applications are constantly being updated and towards the future they will bring with them endless capabilities to continue to simplify tasks and make consumers working life... that little bit easier.

That was a lot of information to take in right? Fancy a recap or a quick summary if so feel free to view the short YouTube video below.
